Moving to Kraków: Astrocartography and Your Relocation Chart

4 min read

Kraków lies at about 50.1°N, 19.9°E. Moving there from Kyiv rotates your chart's meridian about 10.6° west, from Kharkiv about 16.3°, and from Lviv only about 4.1°. Because Kraków is on almost exactly the same latitude as Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv, the relocation is close to a pure rotation: the Ascendant changes mainly because the sky has turned, not because you moved north or south. Any of your MC or IC lines between roughly 17°E and 22.7°E passes within about 200 km of the city.

Kraków on the map

Kraków sits at about 50.1°N and 19.9°E. At that latitude one degree of longitude is about 71 km, so any MC or IC line between roughly 17°E and 22.7°E passes within about 200 km of the city. If you are new to reading lines, start with How to Read an Astrocartography Map.

Kraków is one of the main Polish destinations for Ukrainians, after Warsaw. It is also the closest large Polish city to Lviv, and for many people it was the first stop.

How far your chart rotates

Moving fromLongitudeShift to KrakówTypical effect
Kharkiv36.2°Eabout 16.3° westMore than half a sign; several planets change house
Dnipro35.0°Eabout 15.1° westHalf a sign; similar to Kharkiv
Odesa30.7°Eabout 10.8° westA third of a sign; planets near cusps change house
Kyiv30.5°Eabout 10.6° westSame as Odesa
Lviv24.0°Eabout 4.1° westA small shift; only planets right on a cusp move

Moving west turns the house frame to earlier zodiac degrees. A planet that sat a few degrees before a cusp in your natal chart moves forward into the next house. The relocation chart article explains how to check this for your own chart.

The 50th parallel: the same latitude as home

The Ascendant depends on two things: how far the sky has turned, and your latitude. For most Ukrainian birthplaces, Kraków leaves the latitude almost untouched.

BirthplaceLatitudeDifference from Kraków
Kharkiv50.0°Nabout 0.1°
Kyiv50.5°Nabout 0.4°
Lviv49.8°Nabout 0.2°
Dnipro48.5°Nabout 1.6°
Odesa46.5°Nabout 3.6°

For someone born in Kharkiv, Kyiv or Lviv, the Kraków chart is close to a clean rotation of the natal one. The same is true of parans: if two of your planets were on angles together at around 50°N, many astrologers read that paran as active along the whole band, from Kharkiv through Kraków to Prague and Frankfurt. The Prague guide describes this band in more detail.

A worked example: Kraków, Katowice or Warsaw

Consider Taras, a hypothetical client born in Kharkiv, who has job offers in Kraków, Katowice and Warsaw. He wants a place where work feels visible and rewarding. Suppose his Jupiter MC line runs at about 20.5°E.

Hypothetical example: a Jupiter MC line at about 20.5°E. Warsaw sits about 35 km from it, Kraków about 40 km, Katowice about 105 km. Wrocław and Prague are well to the west, Lviv to the east.

All three cities are within the range where a line is usually felt. The map alone cannot rank them, so Taras moves to the next layer:

  • Latitude. Kraków and Katowice keep his Kharkiv latitude. Warsaw is about 2.2° further north, which changes his Ascendant slightly and moves him off the 50th parallel.
  • Relocation charts. Warsaw is about 1.1° east of Kraków, so its Midheaven is about 1 zodiac degree later. That only matters if a planet sits right on a cusp.
  • Life. Industry, salaries, rent and the community differ far more between these three cities than their charts do.

For Jupiter themes, see Jupiter Line Astrocartography.

Kraków and Warsaw share a meridian

Warsaw is only about 1.1° east of Kraków, about 75 km on the ground at this latitude. Any MC or IC line through one runs close to the other, so the Warsaw guide applies to Kraków almost line for line. The differences come from latitude: the Ascendant, the AC and DC curves and the parans.

Lines to look for near Kraków

Line near KrakówHow it often shows up
Moon or Venus ICA home that feels settled quickly; warm daily life
Jupiter or Sun MCCareer growth, recognition, supportive employers
Mercury ACFaster language learning, networking, study
Saturn ICSlow settling in; housing and family responsibilities
Pluto MCIntense career change; power dynamics at work

For demanding lines, see Saturn and Pluto Lines.

A short checklist for Kraków

  1. Confirm your birth time and the historical time zone of your birthplace.
  2. Note your MC and IC lines between about 16°E and 24°E, and any AC or DC curves crossing southern Poland.
  3. Check whether you have a paran near 50°N.
  4. Build a Kraków relocation chart, and one for Warsaw or Katowice if they are on your list.
  5. Weigh the result against work, housing, schools and the people around you.

For the big picture, see the astrocartography guide.

Key takeaways

  • From Kyiv, Kraków rotates your chart about 10.6°; from Kharkiv about 16.3°; from Odesa about 10.8°; from Lviv about 4.1°.
  • Kraków sits on the 50th parallel, like Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv and Prague. A paran you had at home travels with you.
  • Kraków and Warsaw are only about 1.1° apart in longitude, so they share MC and IC lines. The difference is about 2.2° of latitude.
  • Kraków and Katowice are about 0.9° apart and almost on the same latitude: astrologically they are nearly the same place.
  • Read Kraków through a relocation chart and every line near 19.9°E, not just one.

Common questions

Is Kraków a good city for me astrologically?

It depends on your birth chart. Look at your lines within roughly 300 km of 19.9°E and build a Kraków relocation chart to see which planets sit on angles and which changed house. The same city can feel supportive to one person and demanding to another.

How much does my chart change if I move from Kyiv to Kraków?

Kraków is about 10.6° of longitude west of Kyiv, so the Midheaven and house cusps move back by roughly 9–12 zodiac degrees depending on the sign. Planets within that distance before a cusp move into the next house. Because the latitude is almost the same, there is little additional change to the Ascendant beyond that rotation.

Kraków or Warsaw: which is better astrologically?

They share MC and IC lines, being only about 1.1° apart. Warsaw is about 2.2° further north, which slightly changes the Ascendant, the AC and DC curves and the paran band. Kraków keeps the 50th parallel you had in Kyiv or Kharkiv; Warsaw does not. Beyond that, compare the two relocation charts.

I was born in Lviv. Will Kraków change anything?

Very little. Kraków is only about 4.1° west of Lviv and on the same latitude, so the Midheaven moves about 4 zodiac degrees. Only planets very close to a house cusp change house. Many people born in Lviv describe Kraków as feeling familiar, which fits the small shift.

Why does Kraków feel like home to so many Ukrainians?

Practical reasons come first: a large Ukrainian community, language closeness and a short trip home. Astrologically, Kraków shares latitude with most of central Ukraine, so paran bands and the latitude part of the Ascendant hardly change. The chart is turned, not reshaped.
